A Letter from President Don D Rood, Jr. November 2020

Dear Friends,

Last spring, I wrote about the challenges faced by Timber Pointe Outdoor Center given the necessary cancellation of the summer camp season for 2020 and impending deficits due to the loss of revenue to support operations. I also asked you to partner with the Foundation to help the Center keep the gates open and continue its mission to support children and adults with disabilities and special needs, and their families.

We are all keenly aware of the life enhancing programs Timber Pointe provides children and adults with disabilities and times like these further emphasize the essential role the Center plays in supporting their families as well. With that in mind, the staff at Timber Pointe Outdoor Center chose to leverage support provided by the Foundation and our donors, to get creative. They did not sit on the sidelines waiting for the pandemic to go away. Instead, they created family camps, day programs, respite programs and facilitated distance learning programs to provide much needed support and relief to families affected by stay-at-home orders and COVID safety protocols.

Rather than pull back, the Timber Pointe Outdoor Center staff are capitalizing on the Center’s unique resources to work with partner organizations, schools and community groups. The innovation and investment employed today will undoubtedly broaden and strengthen the Outdoor Center’s reach and capabilities, not just during this unique and difficult time but for years to come!

The Foundation did not quite realize our springtime goal of $25,000 in matching gifts. However, our board chose to dip into shrinking reserves to match the donations we did receive, and contribute our full $25,000 pledge, to support those creative Camp operations this summer. There is much more to do, to continue to enhance and expand the Timber Pointe Outdoor Center facilities!

If you can, please go to the Timber Pointe Foundation website at www.timberpointefoundation.org and click on the “Donate Now” button at the bottom of the page. Then on the “I Want to Help” box, make a donation via credit card or PayPal. If you prefer you can mail your donation to: Timber Pointe Foundation, P.O. Box 233 Bloomington, IL 61702.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.
